Professor Dr Ting Kang Nee
Pg Cert, BPharm (Hons), PhD

Professor Dr Ting Kang Nee is the Head of School of Pharmacy, Division of Biomedical Sciences, University of Nottingham, Malaysia. She obtained her BPharm (Hons), PhD and PG Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Nottingham, UK. Her professional memberships include the UK General Pharmaceutical Council, Malaysia Pharmacy Board and Singapore Pharmacy Council.

Dr Ting Kang Nee’s research involves natural product pharmacology with the focus in drug discovery. Her team work on various derivatives obtained from natural products with interest in medicinal mushrooms. This includes studying the vascular and smooth muscles effects of these isolates for application in respiratory and vascular diseases. One of the main focus is studying the potential vasorelaxation effects of compounds isolated from local plant species and synthetic derivatives.

Dr Ting Kang Nee and team have completed an extensive project that generated the first scientific evidence to support the use of Lignosus rhinocerotis, a local medicinal mushroom, in the treatment of asthma.  Other work involve investigating the potential use of Cordycep sinensis, a popular traditional Chinese medicine, for the treatment of overactive bladder. Other collaborative projects include using plant metabolites as cytotoxic agents against methicillin resistant Staphyloccocus aureus (MRSA) and cancers.
